AC Joint Excision / Mumford Procedure
The goal of the procedure is to remove the uncomfortable and injured Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ) without causing it to become unstable.
This could be harmed as a result of an injury or arthritis. Because Subacromial Impingement is frequently present, an Arthroscopic Subacromial Decompression (ASD) is frequently performed as part of the operation.
The shaver is introduced from the front of the AC Joint, and the joint's worn surfaces are totally removed.
The CA ligament is excised from the acromion's bottom.
The medial section of the acromion is removed such that the entire lateral end of the clavicle is visible.
To maintain stability, the lateral end of the clavicle is excised while the superior capsule and ligament are preserved.
