PRP for Shoulder
Platelet Rich Plasma therapy, or PRP, is a non-healing muscle and tendon injury treatment option for people with SCI who have shoulder pain (Spinal Cord Injury).
Platelets are concentrated blood cells that are subsequently re-injected into the shoulder’s muscle and tendon using one’s own blood. Platelets emit compounds called “growth factors” that promote tissue healing. By concentrating platelets, we can enhance growth factors by up to eight times, promoting tendons repair. In able-bodied people, PRP therapy has showed promise in healing tendon and muscle injuries; however, its effectiveness in those with SCI is uncertain.
