AC Joint Excision / Mumford Procedure

AC Joint Excision / Mumford Procedure

The goal of the procedure is to remove the uncomfortable and injured Acromioclavicular Joint (ACJ) without causing it to become unstable. This could be harmed as a result of an injury or arthritis. Because Subacromial Impingement is frequently present, an Arthroscopic Subacromial Decompression (ASD) is frequently performed as part of the operation.

Procedure

  • The shaver is introduced from the front of the AC Joint, and the joint's worn surfaces are totally removed.
  • The CA ligament is excised from the acromion's bottom.
  • The medial section of the acromion is removed such that the entire lateral end of the clavicle is visible.
  • To maintain stability, the lateral end of the clavicle is excised while the superior capsule and ligament are preserved.
