Elbow Arthroscopic Capsular Release

Elbow Arthroscopic Capsular Release

Loss of motion in the elbow joint can be caused by a variety of factors, the most common of which is elbow trauma. Restricted elbow motion can cause functional deterioration and interfere with day-to-day tasks. With a combination of physical therapy and a splinting regimen, most patients may restore a functional arc of motion. Some patients, however, will have ongoing elbow stiffness. Open approaches have always been helpful in releasing the elbow joint capsule and restoring a functional arc of motion.

The early findings of arthroscopic elbow capsule release for peripheral nerve damage were alarming. With technological advancements and adjustments, arthroscopic capsular release of the elbow has emerged as a safe and reliable approach of restoring elbow motion, which itself is technically demanding.
