Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain

The range of motion of the shoulder is extensive and adaptable. When something goes wrong with your shoulder, it restricts your mobility and can cause a lot of pain and discomfort.

Shoulder pain can be caused by a variety of factors and diseases. Rotator cuff tendinitis is the most common cause.

Other causes of shoulder pain include:

  • Arthritis
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Pinched nerve in the neck or shoulder
  • Torn cartilage
  • Torn rotator cuff
  • Swollen bursa sacs or tendons
  • Heart attack
  • Bone spurs (bony projections that develop along the edges of bones)
  • Broken shoulder or arm bone
  • Dislocated shoulder
  • Injury due to overuse or repetitive use
  • Spinal cord injury

The type and severity of treatment will be determined by the reason and severity of the shoulder discomfort. Physical or occupational therapy, a sling or shoulder immobiliser, or surgery are some of the treatment possibilities.
